The DTM is getting a new, eye-catching platform: ‘Behind the Grid’ – a TV and streaming documentary series that gives fans an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the long-established racing series. The documentary series will be available to watch free of charge on the streaming platform Joyn, on ServusTV ON, Red Bull TV and on the DTM’s official YouTube channel. Excerpts will also be broadcast on linear free-to-air television on ProSieben. The first episode of ‘Behind the Grid’ will be available online from Friday, 28 August 2026 at 8.00 pm. A new episode will then be released weekly until the grand season finale at the Hockenheimring. Each episode lasts approximately 20 minutes.
‘Behind the Grid’ focuses on the people who shape the sport: drivers, teams, mechanics, engineers and managers. The series reveals the emotions behind what fans see on the track during race weekends. Each episode follows its own narrative arc, whilst always staying close to the protagonists. It explores expectations, high-pressure situations, conflicts, decisions, teamwork, passion, setbacks, triumphs – and the sporting intensity of the DTM.
With ‘Behind the Grid’, the DTM is expanding its video content with a modern TV and streaming format. The series’ documentary-style insider perspective offers genuine added value for existing motorsport fans. At the same time, thanks to its unique, real-life character, the series also appeals to viewers who have previously tended to follow the sport from a distance.
‘In the DTM, we have strong personalities and fascinating characters. In “Behind the Grid”, we want to show viewers a side of them they haven’t seen before. This format adds an important new element to our communication strategy for the DTM. We want to offer fans additional content whilst at the same time opening up the series to a wider audience. This can only be achieved through well-told stories. The documentary series is the ideal format for this. We are delighted that the drivers, teams and manufacturers are supporting the project so actively. There is a tremendous willingness to provide exclusive insights – and that is precisely what makes ‘Behind the Grid’ so special,” says DTM Managing Director Claudia Wagner.
‘Behind the Grid’ is being produced by fahrwerkfilm, who have been following the DTM up close with camera crews since the start of the season. Filming takes place in the paddock, in the pits, with the teams and amongst the drivers. The focus is on authentic storytelling, real-life situations and exclusive perspectives from inside the racing series.
Peter Linke, CEO of fahrwerkfilm GmbH: “Whilst filming, we realise time and again just how much potential the DTM holds when the sport is told not just through results and racing action, but through the people behind it. Motorsport works particularly well in this documentary format because the pressure, rivalry, teamwork, joy and disappointment are immediately palpable at every race weekend. We are very much looking forward to now sharing this perspective with a wider audience.”
