Robert Shwartzman to become a Peugeot driver in the 2027 FIA WEC

A top-class new signing for Peugeot in the WEC: in the 2027 season, Robert Shwartzman will compete in the 9X8 in the Hypercar class for the French manufacturer. The 26-year-old is no stranger to the World Endurance Championship. In 2024, he competed in the (yellow) Ferrari 499P fielded by the privateer team AF Corse and also won the Lone Star Le Mans race in Austin, Texas, that year.

He then moved to Prema in the IndyCar Series in 2025. At the Indy 500, Shwartzman sensationally secured pole position. Now he is back in the WEC. “I’m absolutely delighted to be returning to the FIA World Endurance Championship after my time in the United States. I’ve really missed endurance racing over the past two seasons,” he explains. “Right from my very first discussions with the team, I felt genuinely welcome and was immediately made part of the project – in an extremely professional and ambitious environment. The programme for 2027 is particularly exciting, and I can’t wait to embark on this new adventure and write the next chapters of this thrilling story together.”

As is well known, Peugeot will be extensively overhauling the 9X8 for the 2027 season. This means that Shwartzman may well be arriving just in time to achieve success with the French brand. “He is undoubtedly one of the most promising talents of his generation and already possesses a wealth of experience gained at the highest level in both single-seater and endurance racing,” says Peugeot team principal Emmanuel Esnault. “His natural pace, versatility and maturity make him an ideal addition to our team. He is already fully involved in the preparations for our 2027 programme and will play a key role in the team’s future.” As Esnault has indicated, Shwartzman will undertake test drives in the Peugeot 9X8 later in 2026.
