The team has now brought on board a top-class engineer who previously worked for the French team: Mike Elliott worked as chief aerodynamicist for the Enstone-based team between 2008 and 2012, a period during which the team competed in the Formula 1 World Championship under the names Renault and Lotus. The Briton began his Formula 1 career as an aerodynamicist at McLaren; in 2006, he took charge of the aerodynamics team at the long-established Woking-based team.

In 2008, he moved to the Renault F1 Team, where he remained until 2012, before joining the Mercedes works team to take on the role of chief aerodynamicist. In 2017, he took over the role of Head of Technology from Geoff Willis, and in 2021 he was promoted to Technical Director. Just under two years later, he swapped roles with James Allison, becoming Chief Technical Officer at the Mercedes team. Just six months later, he left the Mercedes team.

Elliott has already enjoyed a number of successes in his Formula 1 career to date. He has celebrated eight Constructors’ Championship titles and just as many Drivers’ Championship titles, and has worked with world champions such as Nico Rosberg, Kimi Räikkönen, Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton.
