Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari): Bad news for fans – because of Antonelli

Spanish Grand Prix at the Madring: Lewis Hamilton forced to retire due to a brake failure – Ferrari fans could hardly believe their eyes. The first retirement of the 2026 Grand Prix season, and the first since Brazil 2025 (collision damage following contact with Carlos Sainz’s car). Hamilton’s last retirement due to a brake failure: Canada 2014!

Ferrari is currently investigating exactly what went wrong with the brakes on the Briton’s car. A loss of pressure in the hydraulic system is suspected.

A zero-point race for Ferrari superstar Lewis Hamilton and, at the same time, a victory for Kimi Antonelli – this has implications for the World Championship: Hamilton now trails the Italian by 101 points.

Lewis says: “As long as there’s a mathematical chance, I won’t give up.” But of course, the seven-time world champion has been in the business long enough to know that such a deficit against a rival is only possible if your own car is really fast.

Yet, as a rule, the Mercedes is faster than the Ferrari, and the Italians often find themselves trailing behind McLaren as well.
