The legendary FastCross in Arsago, northern Italy – a blend of supercross and classic motocross – is entering a new era on 10 and 11 October. The iconic event began in Arsago as an invitational race organised by motocross enthusiast and entrepreneur Giorgio Saporiti in 1984 – initially known as the ‘Coupe de l’Avenir’. The event later attracted all the top riders from the USA and was always conveniently scheduled to coincide with the MXoN.

The last FastCross of that era took place in 2000. The site was then sold and decommissioned. The thrilling, head-to-head ‘Uno contro uno’ sprint duels – a single-lap knockout format – which originated in Arsago, also became legendary. A few years ago, Fabio Tognella brought the site, situated near a housing estate, back to life – initially with e-bikes.

Since 2023, motocross bikes have been used again, albeit under floodlights and predominantly featuring national riders and guests from France. For this year’s event, the organiser is taking a big leap forward – once again bringing the absolute top riders on the scene to the starting gate. The track has been extended back to its original dimensions and, for the most part, remains exactly as it was in the early days, featuring numerous natural and man-made jumps as well as a washboard section.

Jeffrey Herlings has been signed up as the star attraction for this year. “I’m looking forward to competing at FastCross. It’s an event I’ve heard a great deal about,” explained the newly crowned MXGP champion from the Honda works team. Also taking part will be MX2 Husqvarna rider Liam Everts. His team-mate Kay de Wolf has also confirmed his participation – though the Dutchman is now injured, so his appearance is in doubt.

For the Tifosi, Red Bull KTM rider Andrea Adamo will also be whipping up the atmosphere; he is also acting as the event’s ambassador. As things stand, several fast Grand Prix riders are also set to take part, including the soon-to-be Honda works rider Maxime Grau, Jan Pancar, Mattia Guadagnini and Tristan Purdon. Incidentally, Adamo has already tested the track, just like Grau. A national supercross event took place in Arsago this summer.
