Reiterberger aims to make up for his Assen setback with a top result in the Eifel

The 2026 Euro Moto season is already drawing to a close with this year’s penultimate event taking place this coming weekend, from 4 to 6 September, at the Nürburgring. The championship had taken a break from the legendary circuit in the Eifel from 2021 up to and including 2023, after the 2021 event had to be cancelled due to the devastating floods in the Ahr Valley. In 2024 and 2025, the series – then still known as the IDM (International German Motorcycle Championship) – returned to the Eifel.

Markus Reiterberger and the Masteroil-alpha-Van Zon-BMW Team, led by team principal Werner Damen, are looking forward to the Superbike weekend with confidence, because even though the hoped-for victory failed to materialise at the last Euro Moto event in Assen, the Netherlands, the lap times and the excellent teamwork clearly showed that they can compete for victory against Lucas Tulovic’s Ducati and Twan Smits’ Yamaha.

Reiterberger is hoping for good weather

“We’re very motivated,” assures the Bavarian, “I haven’t been to the Nürburgring for a while, so the others have a slight advantage. I’ve always liked the circuit. The important thing is that the weather doesn’t throw a spanner in the works here. In Assen we saw just how strong we can be in the rain, but the Nürburgring is known for its rather extreme weather conditions.”

The aim for the coming weekend is to ensure this positive trend continues, and of course the focus is on that long-awaited victory. Even though Reiterberger was able to demonstrate at Assen that he copes very well with the BMW M 1000 RR in the rain, he still hopes that the famous capricious weather in the ‘Green Hell’ at the Nürburgring will stay away.

“I’m looking forward to a great event where I can at least finish on the podium,” he said. “At Assen, my team and I worked very well together and I hope this positive trend continues in the Eifel. We saw at Assen that we can take on the factory bikes without making any concessions and using a standard stock bike, and that gives us the motivation we need to go on the attack again at the Nürburgring.”
