Collin Veijer: On the podium at Misano after practising with a Track KTM in Most

Colin Veijer secured a top result once again on Sunday in the Moto2 race at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, finishing second after a prolonged dry spell. Most recently, the 21-year-old Dutchman – who now lives in Spain – had also finished second at Jerez in the spring following a battle with the Intact team. With the 20 points from Misano, the KTM Ajo rider has re-established his place among the top nine in the standings.

The tall Dutchman from Staphorst, who has won two Moto3 races for Peter Öttl’s team and will retain his place at Ajo in Moto2 for the 2027 season, appeared very relieved. “We put in a very solid performance at Misano and had a pretty good pace, which we’d already demonstrated in qualifying,” explained Veijer, who started from sixth on the grid at Misano and led the race for four laps – having also benefited from Angel Piqueras’s elimination from the front row.

Veijer: “I’m happy with how we managed the race. Of course, we had a bit of luck at the start in Turn 1. But after that, I just focused on maintaining my lines and my rhythm. When Manuel (Gonzalez) overtook me, I tried to stay on his tail – that worked quite well. I might even have had the pace to keep up with Manuel right to the finish, but I didn’t want to take too many risks after the crashes in the last few races.”

Veijer emphasised: “The most important thing was to get back on the podium and give the team a present after a few difficult weeks.” Interestingly, Veijer was still out and about in Most, the Czech Republic, in the week leading up to Misano. There, he spent two days riding a production-spec 990cc KTM. “It was really good fun trying out this bike,” commented Veijer ahead of the crucial race at the Red Bull Ring in Styria.
