Arnhem: Camden Mc Lellan (Triumph) wins Race 1, Coenen crashes

First race of the MX2 class in Arnhem, Grand Prix of the Netherlands: Red Bull KTM factory rider Sacha Coenen took the holeshot, but was attacked by Camden Mc Lellan (Triumph) as early as the first lap. World Championship leader Guillem Farres (Triumph) started in 3rd place, followed by Julius Mikula (KTM), Valerio Lata (Honda), Janis Reisulis (Yamaha) and Simon Längenfelder (KTM). Polesetter Liam Everts started the race among the top eight.

Sacha Coenen crashed again

For long stretches, Sacha Coenen looked set to win the race. In the final laps, Camden Mc Lellan managed to close the gap and put Coenen under pressure. With two laps to go, Sacha lost control in the very same corner that had proved his undoing on Saturday. He went down, allowing Camden Mc Lellan to take the lead and win by a margin of 7.5 seconds.

5th race win for Mc Lellan

For Camden Mc Lellan, it was his fifth race win of the season. The South African reduced his deficit to the top of the standings from 44 to 39 points.

Simon Längenfelder falls behind

Defending champion Simon Längenfelder finished in 7th place, almost a minute behind. His deficit to the top of the standings increased to 70 points, and the gap to Mc Lellan in 3rd place also widened from 20 to 31 points.

Standings at the top of the World Championship

Sacha Coenen managed to reduce his deficit to championship leader Guillem Farres from 25 to 23 points – though it could have been three points fewer had he not crashed.
