Sacha Coenen (KTM) wins in Uddevalla and re-enters the title race

Second round of the MX2 class in Uddevalla (Sweden): Red Bull KTM factory rider Sacha Coenen once again took the holeshot, just ahead of Simon Längenfelder (KTM), Liam Everts (Husqvarna) and Camden Mc Lellan (Triumph). World Championship leader Guillem Farres, who had to start from the very outside after his crash and retirement in the qualifying race, began the race amongst the top 13. On the very first lap, Liam Everts overtook Simon Längenfelder to move into second place.

Längenfelder dropped back after a good start

On the second lap, Camden Mc Lellan (Triumph) got the better of Simon Längenfelder. Guillem Farres, still feeling the effects of his Saturday crash, fought his way forward step by step and had already reached fourth place after just four laps. Even Simon Längenfelder was unable to hold Farres back. The Spaniard overtook the German with great momentum on the outside lines, relegating the defending champion to fifth place.

Farres: Crash had no consequences

Five minutes before the end of the race, Farres slipped again and went down, but the Spaniard didn’t lose much time and didn’t drop any places. In the end, fourth place was more than just damage limitation for the World Championship leader, even though his lead had shrunk to 24 points.

Top Belgian duel

Liam Everts attacked right up until the end of the race, but couldn’t find a way past Sacha Coenen. Things got critical during the lapping manoeuvres. Sacha had to pull off some magic in the final laps, but he won the second race with a 2.4-second lead over Everts and Mc Lellan.

Situation at the top of the standings

With Sacha Coenen’s fourth Grand Prix victory, the Belgian has put himself back in contention for the title. In Sweden, Coenen reduced his deficit to World Championship leader Guillem Farres from 47 to 24 points. This means the MX2 World Championship is wide open once again. Simon Längenfelder remains in fourth place. The German managed to reduce his deficit to the leader from 70 to 61 points, but his gap to Camden Mc Lellan in third place in the standings widened from 10 to 16 points.

The 16th Grand Prix of the season takes place this coming weekend on the sandy track at Arnhem.
