Jeffrey Herlings (HRC) wins qualifying race in Uddevalla

MXGP qualifying race for the Grand Prix of Sweden in Uddevalla: In the absence of Belgian Red Bull KTM factory rider Lucas Coenen, World Championship leader Jeffrey Herlings set the fastest lap time on the Scandinavian track as early as the free practice session.

Start-to-finish victory for Herlings

The Dutchman got off to a good start in the qualifying race, took the holeshot and secured a start-to-finish victory. Behind him came Tim Gajser (Yamaha) and Romain Febvre (Kawasaki). Gajser remained within striking distance for several laps, but he couldn’t find a way to make a move. In the end, Herlings won by a margin of 2.8 seconds. Romain Febvre was also running at roughly the same pace as Herlings and Gajser, but he too was unable to really attack on the slippery surface.

Isak Gifting pipped by de Wolf

Local hero Isak Gifting set about the race with great determination once again and finished in 7th place, but Kay de Wolf (Husqvarna) closed in on the Swede a little too optimistically, skidded out on both wheels and, in doing so, took out the Swede riding ahead of him, who was subsequently unable to get his bike going again. De Wolf finished the race in 7th place, Gifting in 20th.

Seewer in 10th place

Swiss van Venrooy KTM rider Jeremy Seewer secured his first World Championship point of the season in a qualifying race, finishing 10th. His compatriot Kevin Brumann finished the race in 23rd place. No German MXGP riders were on the starting grid in Sweden.

Standings at the top of the World Championship

With his sixth qualifying victory (his third in a row), Jeffrey Herlings extended his lead at the top of the standings, increasing his advantage over Romain Febvre in second place from 104 to 106 points.
