Uddevalla: Jeffrey Herlings (Honda) dominates MXGP Race 1

First race of the MXGP class in Uddevalla (Sweden): Almost 30,000 spectators lined the slopes above the track, creating an electrifying atmosphere. Red Bull KTM factory rider Andrea Adamo took the holeshot, but immediately dropped back a few places. Jeffrey Herlings took the lead at the very first jump combination and led ahead of Tom Vialle (Honda), Pauls Jonass (Kawasaki) and Andrea Adamo. Jonass overtook Vialle on the first lap to move into second place and even launched an attack on the leading Herlings. Behind the top four came Romain Febvre (Kawasaki) and Tim Gajser (Yamaha). The Slovenian attacked hard, overtook Febvre on the outside and nearly collided with Adamo in mid-air.

Gajser’s crash

Gajser was running in fifth place behind Adamo and continued to push, but he pushed too hard. He narrowly avoided crashing on two occasions, but then he went down. The impact was so severe that his airbag deployed. Gajser dropped back to eighth place and was overtaken by local hero Isak Gifting (Yamaha) on the final lap. Pauls Jonass (Kawasaki) held on to second place and crossed the line 21 seconds behind Herlings. Tom Vialle (Honda) followed closely behind in third place.

Febvre versus Adamo

Defending champion Romain Febvre took 16 laps (the race consisted of 18 laps in total) to get the better of Andrea Adamo and finished in 4th place.

Severe crash for Jeremy Seewer

The Swiss van Venrooy-KTM rider quickly worked his way into the top 10 in the early stages of the race, but halfway through the race he took a heavy fall on a downhill section and was forced to retire, having sustained injuries. Kevin Brumann (Husqvarna) crossed the line in 18th place.

Standings at the top of the table

With his race win in Uddevalla, World Championship leader Jeffrey Herlings extended his lead in the MXGP World Championship standings from 106 to 113 points.
