MotoGP Silverstone, FP2: Only Ducati and Aprilia riders in the top 7

The second 30-minute free practice session for the MotoGP class on Saturday afternoon, starting at 12.10 pm CET – with the UK being one hour behind – gives the riders the chance to prepare for qualifying, which follows immediately afterwards. The top 10 from Friday afternoon’s free practice go straight into Qualifying 2, whilst the rest must go through Q1, from which the two fastest riders then advance to Q2.

Marco Bezzecchi, who is still recovering from injury, managed a dream lap on his Aprilia RS-GP during Friday’s free practice; with a time of 1:56.280, the Italian was almost a second faster than Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) in his record-setting time of 1:57.233 minutes set last year.

On Saturday, too, the riders and fans in central England were treated to glorious summer weather, though Jack Miller slid out at Turn 16 as early as his formation lap. Alex Márquez (Gresini Ducati) set the first notable fastest time after 7 minutes with 1:58.425, with Bezzecchi following up a lap later with 1:58.069.

It wasn’t until 4 minutes before the end that Fabio Di Giannantonio (VR46 Ducati) became the first rider on Saturday to break the 1:58 mark – and remained the only one to do so until the end of the session. Behind the Ducati rider, the Aprilia duo of Raul Fernandez and Bezzecchi finished a good tenth of a second behind, with world champion Marc Marquez (Ducati), championship leader Jorge Martin (Aprilia), championship runner-up Ai Ogura (Aprilia) and Alex Marquez (Ducati), followed by a further four riders on Italian bikes; only then did Pedro Acosta on a KTM and Yamaha’s star rider Quartararo feature.
