Toprak is looking forward to the Sachsenring: “I secured my first win here”

MotoGP rookie Toprak Razgatlioglu recently showed good pace on his Yamaha M1 at Assen – until a technical problem brought him to a halt. That’s why the Sachsenring is a special place for him.

At Assen, Pramac rider Toprak Razgatlioglu staged an impressive comeback from the back of the grid in the Grand Prix. He charged his way up to 11th place, but halfway through the race the rookie was forced to head for the pits on his Yamaha M1. Due to severe chattering, it was no longer safe to ride the Japanese bike.

Afterwards, the Superbike World Champion travelled to his native Turkey to enjoy some water sports, amongst other things. This weekend, the MotoGP World Championship continues at the Sachsenring. For Toprak, this will be yet another new experience, although the tight circuit is not entirely unfamiliar to him.

Last time at the Sachsenring: 2014 in the Red Bull Rookies Cup

“I’m looking forward to racing at the Sachsenring because I have some really good memories of this circuit. The last time I raced here was in 2014 in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, where I secured my first victory – so it’s definitely a special place for me,” said the 29-year-old. “At the same time, it almost feels like a completely new circuit to me, because it’s been so many years and this will be my first time riding a MotoGP bike there. Riding a 1,000cc machine at the Sachsenring is a completely different challenge, so I’ll need to get back into the swing of things and understand how the bike handles on this circuit.”

Toprak showed impressive pace at the Assen Grand Prix until his crash. The progress he’s made is giving him confidence. “Given the pace we showed at Assen, I’m looking forward to getting back out on the track,” he emphasised. “I’ll do my best, continue working with the team, and I hope we’ll have another competitive weekend.”
