The MotoGP circus is making its final appearance at the Sachsenring before heading into the summer break, which lasts just under four weeks. Germany’s biggest single sporting event is once again captivating the masses this year; behind the scenes, the promoter MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group (SEG), the organiser ADAC and Sachsenring Event GmbH are fine-tuning the details.
This time, the German national anthem will be performed by singer and actress Yvonne Catterfeld – the Erfurt-born artist is scheduled to sing at 1.52 pm on Sunday. In doing so, MotoGP is following the trend seen in other countries and in Formula 1, where well-known national artists also treat fans to the national anthem.
Standing still means falling behind – even at the Sachsenring, where most of the grandstands have to be erected year after year for the major MotoGP event. To this end, the fibre-optic network has been optimised: “There is now fibre-optic cabling all the way round the circuit and what’s known as a plug-and-play infrastructure,” explained ADAC PR officer Oliver Runschke. “Now there’s less need to lay cables and set up radio links, because everything is buried in the ground.”
Roles within the commentary team have been adapted. This year, there will be a clear distinction between the commentator and the interviewer, following a constant rotation of roles over the past two years. The duo of Thomas Deitenbach and Lukas Gajewski will be based in the commentary tower during the sessions and in the paddock. Johannes Orasche will be reporting from the paddock area and, ahead of the GP races, from the starting grid, bringing us comments from riders, team representatives and guests.
MotoGP at the Sachsenring: Fans are right in the thick of the action
Fans in the grandstands are set to be as close as possible to the heart of the action and receive prompt updates on specific events and highlights during and after the sessions. The trio will also provide live commentary on popular fan events such as the riders’ presentation (Saturday), the Pit Walk (Thursday) and the two Hero Walks (Saturday/Sunday).
New to the programme this year is Family Day on Thursday, featuring numerous activities around the circuit. In addition, for the first time this year, there will be two stunt shows in the Start-Finish Straight area on Saturday after the MotoGP qualifying session and on Sunday lunchtime after the Moto2 race.
