Oschersleben Final: Sidecar World Championship on the right track thanks to Sidecar Partner

For a year now, the organisation of the Sidecar World Championship has once again been in the hands of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), the world motorcycling governing body. In this short space of time, the series – which had been struggling with falling participant numbers – has recovered. The starting grids for this year’s events are now once again packed.

Among those partly responsible for this positive development are the two former riders Michael Breitenbach and Eckart Rösinger, who, through the organisation ‘Sidecar Partner’ which they set up last year, have ensured that the astronomical costs have at least been mitigated somewhat.

“Our aim was to bring teams back into the World Championship. As we know, most of them aren’t exactly rolling in money – every euro counts – so our aim was to drastically reduce the entry fee, because we wanted to get 20 participants on the starting grid each weekend, and we’ve succeeded,” say the scene insiders, and rightly so.

But the two dynamic Germans, who are on hand as points of contact in the paddock at every World Championship round, are also aware that success has many fathers. Companies such as Twin Busch, Perillat Motorsport, Breitenbach Rennsportbeläge, Adolf RS2 sidecar and racing parts, Uwe Schuster Installation & Heizungsbau, Eckarts Trainingslager, B&R Sidecar Racing Tyres, Yamaha Klassiker Teile, Kohlmann Driving School, Brüne Transporte, Sidecar Shop, and the construction firm Baydar are all behind the organisation.

Following the discontinuation of the German Sidecar Championship, which had been supported for many years, the Interessengesellschaft Gespannrennen eV (IGG) is now also showing increased commitment and is involved as an official partner. Its chairman, Robert Werth, has also been an indispensable figure for many years as a generous sponsor through his company, ITW Technik.

Speaking of the IGG, as part of the annual Sidecar Festival at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben on the first weekend in October, daring individuals can put their sidecar skills to the test. Following consultation and a briefing with the pilot, participants can ride two laps of the circuit on Saturday and Sunday for a modest 30 euros.
