German hopes dashed: None considered for the Speedway GP 2

Last weekend, Germany’s Janek Konzack and Mario Häusl missed out on a place in the final series by just 1 or 2 points in the SGP2 qualifying races and were hoping for one of the three permanent wildcards for the three-part U21World Championship, each of which takes place on the same track on the Friday before a Grand Prix. However, that is not to be; the wildcards have gone to Sweden’s Rasmus Karlsson, Slovenia’s Sven Cerjak and the American Slater Lightcap.

Both Cerjak and Karlsson have progressed through the SGP3 series and, finishing fifth in their qualifying rounds, missed out on automatic World Championship entry by just one position. Lightcap finished his qualifying race in Fjelsted level on points with Janek Konzack and was awarded the third wildcard.

Konzack, on the other hand, was given the first of four places on the reserve list and would move straight into the line-up in the event of a withdrawal or injury to a regular rider. The reserve list also features a second German, Mario Häusl; however, the Bavarian is fourth in line.

Defending champion Nazar Parnitskyi is also absent following his sporting setback. This is not a major blow for the Ukrainian, as he has moved up to the Speedway Grand Prix in place of England’s Tai Woffinden, although he has struggled there so far and has only collected 14 World Championship points.
