Speedway German Championship: Kai Huckenbeck takes the day’s victory in the championship final

The Paul Greifzu Stadium in Stralsund was the venue for the fifth and final race of the German Speedway Championship. As Norick Blödorn had already secured the title following his victory at Wolfslake, the main focus was on the silver and bronze medals. Nevertheless, Blödorn showed right from the first heat that he hadn’t come to Stralsund just for fun, opening the evening’s racing with a victory. Patrick Hyjek, Janek Konzack and Kai Huckenbeck won the other heats in the first round.
In the second round, three race winners – Konzack, Blödorn and Huckenbeck – came up against one another, and Huckenbeck came out on top in this duel. The rider from Werl came out of the chicanes best from the inside and moved ahead of Konzack to take the lead. Whilst Huckenbeck led the way, Blödorn tried to get past Konzack, but the latter withstood the pressure and crossed the finish line in second place, just ahead of Blödorn. Alongside Huckenbeck, Patrick Hyjek was also unbeaten after two heats, but in the third and fourth heats the 19-year-old conceded one point each to Huckenbeck and Blödorn.
Going into the final heat, Huckenbeck, on 11 points, had it in his own hands to secure the day’s victory. After Hyjek and Blödorn had taken heat wins but only managed to reach 13 points each as a result, Huckenbeck sealed the day’s victory with a win in Heat 20. Blödorn took second place in the run-off against Hyjek. In the final championship standings, which are based on the three best results, Huckenbeck claimed the silver medal behind champion Blödorn. Bronze went to Kevin Wölbert, ahead of the young Tyler Haupt and Valentin Grobauer.
