New 24h Nürburgring Series will not take place in 2027

The 24 Hours of Nürburgring Series, originally scheduled for the 2027 season, has been postponed until 2028. This was announced by ADAC Nordrhein following discussions with representatives of the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS) and the Nürburgring Endurance Interest Group (ILN). “Unfortunately, the lead time for introducing a new series format was too short for many racing teams, partners and sponsors,” explained 24h race director Walter Hornung. “However, we still believe our forward-looking concept for motorsport on the Nordschleife makes sense and we have also received a great deal of positive feedback on it. In particular, the professional structures for which the 24-hour race has been renowned for years, and the planned attractions for fans beyond the actual racing action, have generated a great deal of interest. We will be engaging in intensive discussions with the relevant stakeholders at the Nürburgring, and in particular with the racing teams.” On the initiative of the German Motor Sport Federation (DMSB) and the ADAC e.V., the two series had met on several occasions in recent days to discuss approaches for a joint platform on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. “Even though a joint series did not materialise from these meetings for the time being, we intend to continue the discussions with a view to 2028, in order to create the best possible platform for teams, drivers and, last but not least, Nordschleife fans in the future.”

The 24h Qualifiers could serve as a model for future planning; in addition to the racing itself, they offer a supporting programme both on and off the track. Successful elements of the 24h Nürburgring – which has boomed in recent years – such as activity zones in the paddock or a high-quality TV production for fans at home – are also set to enhance the value of the events for teams and fans alike.

For 2027, however, everything will remain as it is for the time being: From 30 April to 2 May, the 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers will take place, consisting of two 4-hour races, offering teams optimal testing opportunities and drivers ideal conditions for obtaining the Nordschleife DPN permit. The Nordschleife’s highlight of the season, the ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring, is scheduled for the Corpus Christi weekend from 27 to 30 May. As an additional offering for racing teams particularly interested at the start of the season, extensive test and set-up runs will be available as part of the 24-hour prologue (2 to 4 April).
