Domi Aegerter (8th/Kawasaki) has shown everyone: “I’m competitive”
After crashing in the first Supersport race on Saturday, Dominique Aegerter fought his way to his second-best race result with Kawasaki at the Circuito do Estoril on Sunday. But the breakthrough has come too late.

Dominique Aegerter was more confident than usual ahead of the meeting at Estoril, and his optimism was well-founded. The two-time Supersport World Champion had been getting on better with the Kawasaki of late, even if the results didn’t reflect that. At the same time, the team had got a better handle on the ZX-6R 636, as his team-mate Jeremy Alcoba confirmed with two wins at Cremona.
In Estoril, the Spaniard impressed once again: third place in the first race and another victory on Sunday. And Aegerter? The Swiss rider crashed on Saturday whilst lying in eighth place and finished the second race in exactly that position, just 0.5 seconds behind Philipp Öttl (6th) and only 2.6 seconds behind the final podium place.
The race was stopped on lap 10 and restarted over six laps. “We finished the weekend in the top 10 and were thus able to make up for some of what we’d missed out on the day before,” said the 36-year-old, relieved. “It was a mad race. In the opening laps, I found it hard to attack and overtake other riders. That was really difficult. At the restart, I had to start from 14th place but immediately dropped back two positions. As there were only six laps to go, I gave it my all from the very first metre and crossed the line in eighth. That’s a solid result, having taken another step forward this weekend.”
Remarkably, Dominique Aegerter set the third-fastest lap time on Sunday!
The 2026 Supersport World Championship is drawing to a close, with the season finale taking place in Jerez this coming weekend. “A big thank you to the team for their fantastic support, which is helping me get to grips with our package more and more. Unfortunately, it’s come a bit late – but better late than never,” said the Rohrbach rider regretfully. “At last I can show that I’m competitive, as underlined by the third-fastest lap time in today’s race. In a week’s time we’ll be in Jerez, where I really want to give it my all. We’ll be more competitive if we start the weekend at a similar level to here. In Jerez, on my final race weekend in green, I’ll be giving it my all one last time. That’s for sure!”
