ZX Moto in Cremona: Fans robbed, no podium to make up for it

ZX Moto isn’t just pushing the technical boundaries in the Supersport World Championship; it’s also actively promoting the production-based world championship in China. At the meeting in Cremona, the colours of the company – which was only founded in 2024 – and Chinese national flags stood out clearly in the stands. The fact that so many Asians made their way to the Italian circuit was down to CEO Zhang Xue, who had organised a flight carrying 200 fans. There is also a large Chinese community in the region.

It was just the results that didn’t quite go to plan. Star rider Valentin Debise and his team-mate Federico Caricasulo put in solid performances, but a podium finish eluded them. The Frenchman finished 4th and 5th, whilst the Italian came 26th in the first race following an incident and finished 8th in the second. “The current set-up is certainly not in our favour,” emphasised team boss Fabio Evangelista. “The whole team would have loved to secure a podium finish for Zhang Xue, but I’d still like to thank the riders and the team for their fantastic work.”

In the first race, Debise narrowly missed out on a podium place, finishing just 0.134 seconds behind third-placed Yamaha rider Filippo Farioli. “Valentin rode a good race: I don’t think he could have done any better. Of course, it’s a shame he missed out on the podium, but he made up ground on his rivals in the championship, and that was very positive,” explained Evangelista. “And Federico was forced off the track by another rider, which made his race difficult right from the start, but he still managed to set some excellent lap times.”

Thanks to fast qualifying laps, the two ZX-Moto riders started from third and sixth on the grid. “I wasn’t entirely satisfied with the race results, because with Valentin on the front row and Federico on the second row, we might have been able to achieve more,” said the Italian, expressing his slight dissatisfaction.

Incidentally, the ZX-Moto fans who had travelled from China did not have entirely positive experiences in Europe. On social media, Chinese fans reported that the coach they had hired had been broken into; rucksacks, cameras and cash were stolen. The theft has not yet been solved.
