Jeremy Alcoba (Kawasaki) needed this victory: “I’ve got nothing for 2027”

Jeremy Alcoba’s first Supersport victory did not come out of the blue. Since Donington Park, the 23-year-old’s form has been on a steep upward trajectory, as evidenced by his third place in the first race. The Kawasaki rider then crashed at Magny-Cours whilst in a promising position, but subsequently staged an impressive comeback.

However, just a few days before his Puccetti team’s home race, Alcoba was confronted with the news that Jaume Masià had been signed as his successor in the 2027 Supersport World Championship. The fact that he still lined up at the start in Cremona with such motivation is a real credit to him.

Alcoba laid the foundations for his victory in the first race by securing pole position in qualifying – the last rider to put a Kawasaki on the front row of the grid was Philipp Öttl at Jerez in 2021. And the race win was Kawasaki’s first since Can Öncü triumphed at the Mandalika Street Circuit in 2023.

For the Spaniard, it was his first ever victory in the Supersport category. “The first win feels fantastic. We’ve had so many problems over the past two years, but I knew I had the potential to win and could also fight for the title,” said the Kawasaki rider in an interview with SPEEDWEEK.com’s Sebastian Fränschky. “The road to getting here has been a rocky one. I already felt strong during testing on this track, and that obviously helped. I needed this success because I’ve always been working towards it, and my team have also done an excellent job.”

The rider, currently seventh in the World Championship, continued: “We’d already been performing brilliantly at the last three rounds, but the results didn’t reflect that. We could have been in contention for the win at Magny-Cours too, but we had a bit of bad luck there – I crashed and only managed to score one point. I was absolutely furious because my pace would have been enough to win.”

Despite his joy, Alcoba makes no secret of his state of mind. “It’s not the best time in my career – so far, I’ve come away empty-handed for 2027,” he emphasised. “But I won’t let it get me down; I’ll keep working hard and try to keep all the negative influences at bay. That’s why I’ve got my cousin here with me, backing me up. I’m brimming with confidence, but nobody seems to notice what I’m achieving this year – for example, compared to my team-mate.”

His team-mate at Kawasaki is two-time Supersport World Champion Dominique Aegerter, who is struggling with the switch to the ZX-6R after three years in the World Superbike Championship. The Swiss rider finished ninth in Cremona.
