Dominique Aegerter (Kawasaki) in Cremona: Back in the top 10 at last

It was a sensational moment when Jeremy Alcoba roared across the finish line as the winner in the first race on Saturday at the Cremona Circuit – it was the Spaniard’s first Supersport victory and Kawasaki’s first since Can Öncü’s win at Mandalika in 2023. On Friday, the 23-year-old had already secured his first pole position in qualifying since Philipp Öttl at Jerez in 2021. The celebrations were even greater when Alcoba also won the second race on Sunday.

The tenth round of the season proved it: the Kawasaki ZX-6R 636 is competitive. And, to a lesser extent, the same applies to Dominique Aegerter, who finished ninth in the first race at his Puccetti team’s home round, securing a single-digit result for the first time since Assen (sixth in Race 1).

“I’m delighted to have finished a race in the top 10 again after some time – in ninth place, no less – which has allowed us to pick up some good points,” said the 35-year-old with relief. “It was great fun, as I had plenty of exciting battles with other riders. Even though we always want a bit more, I’m taking the positives from it, because we’re finally on the right track and I’m getting a slightly better feel for the bike.”

As Aegerters’ fastest lap of 1:32.354 was not among the top nine, the Kawasaki rider dropped three places on the starting grid for the second race to 15th position. After 23 laps and numerous battles, the two-time Supersport World Champion crossed the finish line in twelfth place.

“Of course, I wanted to achieve more than just twelfth place. I got off to a good start, but in the opening laps I lacked the power to attack and overtake,” explained Aegerter. “Things improved midway through the race, and during that phase I was really competitive. That allowed me to overtake other riders and fight my way up the field. But in the closing stages we struggled a bit because I was pushing as hard as I possibly could on every lap. Overall, I think it was a positive weekend here in Cremona, as we’ve taken a step forward.”

What does Aegerter have to say about his team-mate’s performance? “I’m absolutely delighted for him and the team that we were able to achieve this success here in the team’s home town. But I’m also delighted for the whole Kawasaki family, as we haven’t had the easiest of times this year,” said the Rohrbach native. “It’s great to see that our bike is competitive. When everything comes together, we can be fast with our package.”
