Polo Cup Lite to expand the Polo Cup Germany’s youth development programme from 2028

The Polo Cup Germany has got off to an extremely successful start. The high level of interest has demonstrated just how great the demand is for affordable motorsport in Germany. This demand is being met: from the 2028 season onwards, Germany’s most affordable touring car cup will gain an additional entry-level series in the form of the new Polo Cup Lite. The aim is to make the transition from karting to motor racing even easier and more affordable for young talents.

The Polo Cup Lite is aimed in particular at young drivers who wish to take their first steps in touring car racing, and it consistently upholds the values of the Polo Cup, namely to offer affordable, sustainable motor sport of a high standard for everyone.

The new series is deliberately positioned below the Polo Cup Germany and complements its tried-and-tested junior programme with a further stage of development. In doing so, the series organisers are responding to the great interest in the Polo Cup Germany concept and creating a further opportunity to offer affordable motor racing at a professional level.

Tried-and-tested technology

Technically, the Polo Cup Lite is based on a platform that has proven itself successfully in South African motorsport for many years. The cars use the same bare chassis as the Polo Cup Germany race cars, but largely do without elaborate aerodynamic packages. Instead of specialised bodywork components, mainly production parts are used. This significantly reduces both the initial purchase cost and ongoing running costs. Naturally, left-hand-drive cars are used for the local Cup.

Power comes from the same two-litre turbo engine from the Golf 8 GTI that is also used in the Polo GTI Cup. However, in the Lite car, it is tuned to around 210 PS to further improve drivability, reliability and stability. A production-spec DSG gearbox is used. A Motec ECU, racing wiring loom and a dashlogger are all included in the package.

No driver assistance systems – the focus is on the driver

The concept is complemented by an H&R suspension and the use of semi-slick tyres, which can be used in both dry and wet conditions. This eliminates the need for additional sets of tyres for different weather conditions, further reducing costs. ABS, traction control, ESP and radio are not fitted, in order to place even greater emphasis on the driver.

Despite the consistent focus on cost-effectiveness, drivers do not have to compromise on safety in any way. As in the Polo Cup Germany, the Polo Cup Lite cars also feature a full-specification, welded FIA safety cell, a fire-extinguishing system and all the mandatory safety equipment.

To enable a cost-effective entry into motor racing, the price has been carefully calculated. The race-ready car, including four additional wheels, costs €52,950 net, offering unbeatable value for money.

Our aim is to create a seamless platform for young talent, where drivers can develop step by step.”

Interested drivers and teams can order the car with immediate effect. Participants in the Polo Cup have a right of first refusal. Further information on the sporting regulations, the race calendar, the cars and the conditions of entry for the Polo Cup Lite will be announced over the coming months.
