Now including exhaust systems: WP Pro Components expands its product range

“Developed in response to the need for a high-performance braking system precisely tailored to the specific OEM requirements of KTM motorbikes (…) unrivalled reliability on the road and on the racetrack.” The quote comes from a press release issued by KTM’s supplier, WP Suspension, which was published in January to mark the launch of its in-house brake development and production under the ‘WP Braking Systems’ label.

This passage could well be reused shortly, with a few minor adjustments, when WP announces a further expansion of its business. Until now, the company – which has its roots in the Netherlands – has been known to end customers primarily for developing and producing high-quality original equipment spring and damper components for KTM and other premium brands. In doing so, WP operated more in KTM’s slipstream than as a standalone company. In the spring of 2026, following years of preliminary development, the company began producing its own braking systems, described in corporate parlance as ‘to OEM standard’. To clarify: the company with a similar name, ‘WP Performance Systems’, had previously produced exhaust systems and chassis parts for KTM, but was later absorbed into the current in-house supplier ‘KTM Components GmbH’, another company within the KTM group.

As SPEEDWEEK.com has learnt, the Munderfinger-based firm is set to take the next step shortly, following the example of its braking division, as KTM’s own company will in future also offer exhaust systems to end customers under the ‘WP Pro Components’ label. The name has so far been used for WP’s highest-quality suspension components and suggests that the Austrians are likely to be targeting premium manufacturers such as Akrapovic and Termignoni in particular as competitors in the exhaust system segment. The parts will be fitted, amongst other things, to the next generation of KTM and Husqvarna motocross models, which are still in development and are expected to hit the tracks next year. Pre-production motorcycles fitted with exhaust systems bearing the relevant branding have already been spotted. WP itself declined to comment when asked.

The motivation for expanding the range to include exhaust systems is likely to be the same as that expressed in the opening quote regarding braking systems: Being able to tailor both supplier and aftermarket parts precisely to the requirements of its own motorbikes gives the manufacturer greater control and, as a result, enables higher performance and reliability than components purchased from external firms. For the sake of completeness, it should be noted that suppliers across all sectors do indeed tailor their products individually to the needs of individual manufacturers – be it Bosch vehicle dynamics control systems, Öhlins suspension systems, Akrapovic exhaust systems or similar products. However, their products often have to work for different manufacturers and are designed accordingly. Tailoring in-house parts to the final motorcycles makes the parent company KTM more independent of external firms and also offers tangible quality benefits.
