Matteo Cairoli takes the lead in the DTM standings with his victory

Matteo Cairoli is the first driver to secure two wins in this year’s DTM season. At the sweltering Lausitzring, the Italian took victory in the Emil Frey Racing Ferrari, taking a major step forward in the title race as this triumph saw him take the lead in the championship standings.

Nicki Thiim finished second in the Comtoyou Racing Aston Martin; the Dane was just 0.413 seconds behind the winning Ferrari at the end of the race.

Finn Wiebelhaus rounded off the podium in the Haupt Racing Team Ford. For the reigning ADAC GT Masters champion, this is his first podium finish in the DTM.

The safety car was deployed on the second lap. Debris had to be cleared from the track, as pieces of debris that Maximilian Paul had lost were lying on the start-finish straight. Due to the neutralisation, the race was extended by one lap.

During Maro Engel’s first mandatory pit stop, the WINWARD mechanics failed to secure one of his wheels properly, meaning Engel had to serve a penalty lap. The team committed the same offence with Jules Gounon, resulting in him receiving the same penalty.
