Once a racer, always a racer: the ADAC Racing Weekend at the Salzburgring also saw a gathering of old DTM veterans. Former team principal Walter Wolf (not to be confused with the former F1 team principal of the same name) and Herbert Drexler reminisced about old times.

Naturally, the chaotic weekend at the Salzburgring during the Alpentrophäe in August 1988 was also discussed – a weekend marked by numerous accidents and race cancellations, and no official results. To this day, this marked the end of the DTM at the Salzburgring (only the Super Touring Car Cup followed, and since 2025 the ADAC GT Masters).

They were wild and wonderful times, both agreed in unison. From 1987 to 1989, Walter Wolf led the Ford works team in the DTM with the Sierra Cosworth RS500 and Armin Hahne, whilst Drexler drove a Sierra Cosworth himself as an ‘independent’ entrant. Hahne finished third overall in 1988 with six race wins. Drexler only took part in the ‘Salzburg Chaos’. Prior to that, the 72-year-old had become German circuit champion in 1987. Afterwards, he competed several times in events including the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring and the ADAC GT Cup for Walter Wolf.
