Ferrari wins ahead of Cadillac at Lone Star Le Mans in Austin

Ferrari is the big winner of the FIA WEC 6-hour race in Austin. Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen came out on top in the 499P, even though Toyota had looked like the certain winner right up until the very end. “It was a truly unpredictable race, which we ultimately managed to win by making the most of our car’s potential and doing an excellent job with our strategy and tyre management,” said a delighted Nielsen. “It’s fantastic to be back on the winners’ podium and to take home so many points for the World Championship standings.”

The race initially got underway with the other works Ferrari, driven by James Calado, Antonio Giovinazzi and Alessandro Pier Guidi, starting from pole position. Giovinazzi also dominated the early stages of the race, leading ahead of the Cadillac V-Series.R driven by Earl Bamber, Sébastien Bourdais and Jack Aitken. However, the eventual winning 499P driven by Fuoco, Molina and Nielsen had already managed to move up into the top three by the end of the first hour of the race.

As is usual in an endurance race, different strategies were employed as the race progressed, allowing various Hypercars to take a turn in the lead. The Ferrari driven by Calado, Giovinazzi and Pier Guidi also suffered a minor setback when it lost a few seconds during a pit stop midway through the race. Ultimately, the Toyota driven by Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Nyck de Vries took the lead later on.

However, with eleven minutes to go, a hydraulic problem occurred on the TR010 Hybrid, clearing the way for victory for Fuoco, Molina and Nielsen. Second place went to the Cadillac driven by Bamber, Bourdais and Aitken. “That’s a truly fantastic result. It was a race full of ups and downs, with numerous interruptions, yellow flag periods and safety car deployments,” said Aitken. “We were constantly fluctuating between the lead and the lower positions in the top 10, so it was hard to predict where we’d end up. But we fought our way through and secured a fantastic podium finish on home soil.”

Third place went to the Alpine A424 driven by António Félix da Costa, Ferdinand Habsburg and Charles Milesi, ahead of the Aston Martin Valkyrie driven by Tom Gamble and Harry Tincknell. The top five was rounded off by the second Alpine, driven by Jules Gounon, Frédéric Makowiecki and Victor Martin. In the LMGT3 class, the Aston Martin Vantage AMR LMGT3 driven by Mattia Drudi, Ian James and Zacharie Robichon came out on top. The FIA WEC is taking only a short break. The next race is scheduled for 27 September 2026 at Fuji in Japan.
