Mike Conway is retiring at the end of the current 2026 FIA WEC season. This means the Briton will compete in exactly two more races in the FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC): the races at Barcelona-Catalunya and Monza. “It’s been a long journey to get here, and one I’m really proud of. It’s been a very emotional journey with many ups and downs and stints in various racing series, right up to the last 13 seasons with Toyota – a team that has truly become a home for me,” Conway explained in an emotional video posted on social media.

Conway first made a name for himself in formula racing and even sat in a Formula 1 cockpit for test drives. He then made his final breakthrough in the American IndyCar Series. In 2013, he finally moved into sports car racing. Following successes in LMP2, he moved into the Toyota cockpit in the FIA WEC in 2014. He has been a regular driver for the Japanese manufacturer since 2015.

In doing so, he has secured major titles. In the 2019/20 and 2021 seasons, Conway won the FIA WEC Drivers’ Championship. Added to this were his two victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2021 and 2026. “It was a pleasure to race alongside Mike in the number 7 car for so many years,” says his team-mate and now team principal, Kamui Kobayashi. “We’ve shared many emotional moments together, particularly at Le Mans. Some of my fondest memories from racing are linked to Mike. He was a great team-mate – not only in terms of speed and consistency, but also on a personal level. He has become a friend to many of us, and we will miss him in the team. But in motorsport, nothing lasts forever, and we all wish Mike a well-deserved and happy retirement surrounded by his family.”
