KTM’s off-road range starts with electric balance bikes for children aged two and above. There are three models to choose from. One step up, there are now four new electric motocross bikes. In this segment, the three models SX-E2, SX-E3 and SX-E5 were previously available; now the SX-E2.21 has been added to the range.
Like the KTM SX-E2, the KTM SX-E2.12 is also based on the tried-and-tested frame design featuring a central aluminium main frame. For the SX-E 2.12, however, this design has been revised and combined with a 12-inch front wheel instead of the 10-inch front wheel found on the KTM SX-E2. In addition, longer suspension components provide a higher seat height and a more mature riding experience overall.
The front wheel is fitted with a conventional WP fork offering 90 mm of travel. At the rear, a central shock absorber with adjustable spring preload is used, providing 70 mm of travel. Braking is provided by disc brakes at both the front and rear. Thanks to the revised geometry, the KTM SX-E2.12 offers a seat height 66 mm higher than the KTM SX-E2, which has a maximum seat height of 500 mm. In addition, the increased ground clearance and extended wheelbase provide extra stability and control, whilst maintaining the low kerb weight of just 29 kg.
The KTM SX-E2.21 is powered by a maintenance-free wheel-hub motor with an output of 1.8 kW, which draws its energy from an IP65-rated lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 9.4 Ah. With a maximum torque of 50 Nm, the system delivers outstanding performance. The absence of traditional drive components such as a chain and sprocket not only reduces maintenance requirements and weight but also enhances safety for young riders. Safety is further enhanced by the rollover sensor, which automatically cuts off the power supply in the event of a fall. In addition, a wrist-mounted rip-off switch with an integrated engine cut-off interrupts the power supply if the rider is unintentionally separated from the motorbike. For simple and intuitive operation, the KTM SX-E2.12 features an illuminated multifunction display on the handlebars. The colour-coded display allows the rider to quickly and clearly identify which of the three power levels is currently selected at any time.
With its virtually silent drive, intuitive handling and low weight, the KTM SX-E2.12 opens up a wide range of uses and ensures riding enjoyment in places where conventional motorbikes reach their limits due to noise restrictions. Thanks to the 500W charger, the battery can be fully recharged in around an hour from any 110- or 230-volt socket. The new 2027 model year KTM SX-E2.12 is available now – well in time for Christmas – from authorised KTM dealers at a price of €2,499 (Switzerland: CHF 2,290, Austria: €2,599).
