Winners of the WEC race at Silverstone to receive the RAC Tourist Trophy

In the run-up to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) has also announced a calendar for the 2027 season. The biggest change: a return to the Silverstone circuit. The WEC raced there from 2012 to 2019. After that, the championship gave this historic British circuit a wide berth. The planned dates are 23 to 25 April 2027 – making it the third round of the 2027 season.

Since the 2013 race, the winner of the FIA WEC round has also been awarded the ‘Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy’. The Tourist Trophy was first contested in 1905 (and was won, incidentally, by John Napier). The Tourist Trophy is therefore the longest-running prize in motorsport.

The Tourist Trophy has already been presented to many famous names – such as Sir Stirling Moss, Rudolf Caracciola, Tazio Nuvolari, Mike Hawthorn, Graham Hill, Denny Hulme, Derek Bell, Tom Kristensen and Allan McNish. Mike Conway has also held the trophy in his hands. Conway is still active and, in mid-June, he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the Toyota TR010 Hybrid.

The qualities traditionally required to win the Tourist Trophy are the same as those needed for top-level performance in endurance racing. We are therefore confident that whoever receives this coveted award on the podium at Silverstone next spring will have truly earned it.”
