Ferrari at Monza with a new engine and in the spirit of Michael Schumacher

The home race at Monza is always a very special Grand Prix for Scuderia Ferrari. This year, however, the Italian Grand Prix is special for yet another reason: 30 years ago, Michael Schumacher secured his first victory at Monza in Ferrari red. And 20 years ago, he announced his retirement and his departure from Ferrari during the Monza weekend – having just won the Italian Grand Prix once again. Ferrari is celebrating this weekend with a special livery in memory of Schumi’s successes. Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc will also be wearing special racing suits.

A race weekend dedicated to a true legend, then. The current Ferrari team principal, Frédéric Vasseur, said ahead of the anniversary race: “Monza is always a very special weekend for Ferrari. Racing in front of our Tifosi gives the whole team incredible energy, and this year there’s an extra emotional dimension as we celebrate Michael Schumacher and the legacy he has left behind at our company.”

Vasseur: Schumi’s values still hold great significance

Vasseur on the seven-time world champion, who won five consecutive world titles with the Scuderia between 2000 and 2004: “His tireless pursuit of improvement, his attention to detail and his firm belief in teamwork are values that remain of central importance to us even today.”

New engine for Monza!

Ferrari is bringing an engine upgrade that is well-suited to the high-speed circuit at Monza. Vasseur: “In terms of performance, we are introducing an updated power unit within the scope of the development opportunities available under ADUO. This is a step in the right direction, and as we know, this year it’s the small gains in performance that will make all the difference.” ADUO stands for “Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities”. Teams with less competitive engines can make use of these opportunities. On the high-speed circuit at Monza, engine power makes a particularly big difference.

Vasseur: “Monza is a demanding circuit, and the field is extremely close together. Our priority will be to execute every aspect of the weekend as well as possible, starting on Friday. We want to draw extra motivation from the passion of our home crowd and give our Tifosi a strong weekend.”
