Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari/4th): “A lot of people always focus on the negative”

It is highly likely that 19-year-old Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli will become the youngest Formula 1 World Champion in 2026. This also means – yet another title missed by Ferrari, and yet another missed opportunity for Lewis Hamilton to secure his eighth title.

In the paddock at the Baku City Circuit, Hamilton, with 106 Grand Prix wins to his name, spoke about his plans with Ferrari for the final stage of the World Championship.

The 41-year-old Englishman said: “Of course, those 101 points are a lot. Kimi has won the last two races; I only finished sixth at Monza and retired in Madrid. But there are still plenty of championship points to be won, and my aim with Ferrari is to hold on to second place in the Constructors’ Championship behind Mercedes. That would be a decent result.”

“We must never forget where we were a year ago and where we stand today. Even if things look grim at times, we have to focus on the positives. We’ve won races and secured podium finishes through our own efforts. The team has done an incredible job. Perhaps that isn’t always given enough credit. A lot of people only ever think about the negative.”

“As for me personally, I want to overtake George Russell in the Drivers’ Championship and finish second overall. That, too, would be a great achievement for us.”
