Final sprint for Pirelli: Cremona marks the last Superbike weekend in Italy

With just three rounds remaining, the era of Pirelli in the Superbike World Championship is drawing to a close – the Italian tyre manufacturer has been the sole supplier to the production-based world championship since 2004. From 2027, Michelin will take over; in return, Pirelli will supply MotoGP with its ‘black gold’.

Pirelli certainly has enough tyre compounds to ensure the remaining race weekends go off without a hitch. However, it seems they do not want to be accused of phasing out their Superbike involvement half-heartedly: for the tenth round of the season at the Cremona Circuit, Pirelli is offering the riders a new option.

“We will be making a new super-soft development tyre available, the F0769. This specification uses the same compound as the SCX-series tyres, but features a completely new carcass,” announced racing director Giorgio Barbier. “It was developed with the aim of increasing the bike’s stability in corners and when exiting them, whilst maintaining a high level of consistency over the entire race distance. A year ago, when it was very hot, almost all riders opted for the super-soft development tyre, the E0126. Thanks to the results achieved on the track, this solution was promoted to production. It will therefore be particularly interesting to assess the behaviour of the new F0769 in comparison with a tried-and-tested solution.”

Even though the race weekends at Estoril and Jerez are still to come after Cremona, it will be a special event for Pirelli. “It is the final race in Italy, marking the end of a 23-year history as the sole tyre supplier to the Superbike World Championship. To celebrate this important milestone, we will be setting up a dedicated grandstand for our staff, to whom we would like to express our gratitude for their vital contribution to the success of this journey.”
