Red Bull Racing is keen to carry the positive momentum from recent races into the race weekend in the USA. Max Verstappen has won twice in a row recently. He triumphed at Sepang and then again in Singapore. Ironically, it was at the Marina Bay Circuit – where he had never won before – that he was the fastest in both the Sprint and the Grand Prix. So, are the omens good for this weekend’s US Grand Prix in Austin?
Verstappen: “Finally winning in Singapore was a special moment. Securing two race wins in a row as well as a sprint race victory with our own powertrain is a cause for celebration and something the team can be proud of.” It is their first season with their own engine.
Max Verstappen on Austin
Verstappen on Austin and the Circuit of the Americas: “This track is very different to drive, but it’s always great fun despite its bumps. It has long corners and elevation changes, so we need to make sure we’re well-placed in the race right from the start with the car’s set-up. Austin is always an entertaining weekend, and there’s plenty to do in the city. We’re facing another triple-header, and our focus is on carrying this momentum forward, making the most of our opportunities and scoring as many points as possible for the Constructors’ Championship.” The battle for third place is currently incredibly tight with McLaren (you can find the World Championship standings below the article).
Between the first triple-header – Azerbaijan, Bahrain/Malaysia and Singapore – and the upcoming second triple-header in the USA, Mexico and Brazil, the Formula 1 drivers had a weekend off to relax. Verstappen’s team-mate Isack Hadjar spent the time in his home town of Paris.
Hadjar: “After Singapore, it was lovely to return to Paris following a demanding weekend and spend time with family and friends. I feel re-energised and am ready to hit the ground running again in Austin. The last triple-header was extremely positive for the team, and the car has really taken a step forward in terms of performance – we want to take that with us to the US. We’ve got another triple-header coming up, so it’s all about staying focused and working hard to come away with a positive result in the end. I’m looking forward to battling at the front again, and the Circuit of the Americas is a brilliant track – so it’s going to be an exciting race.”
