On the grass track, lovingly restored and, in some cases, heavily modified Simson bikes take on other extraordinary racing machines. It’s not just about clocking the fastest possible laps, but also about spectacular head-to-head battles, drifts and plenty of entertainment for the spectators.

A colourful field of entrants is expected again in 2026. International participation adds to the excitement: alongside riders from the region and across Germany, others from England and Denmark have announced their attendance. This once again underlines the significance of the Simson race in Wellmutsweiler beyond the region.

It is the mix of classes in particular that makes the event so appealing: whilst every tenth of a second is fought for in the more powerful categories, in other races the focus is on enjoying the historic vehicles and the camaraderie of motor racing.

A weekend entirely dedicated to Simson

Race day on Saturday is the highlight of a whole weekend of events. The big marquee party kicks off right by the race track on Friday, 2 October, from 6 pm. From 8 pm, the band Fly will provide live music and a party atmosphere, and the bar will be open.

On Saturday, the racing action begins at 10.00, with free entry for spectators! There’s plenty on offer away from the track too: food and drinks are available in the marquee and at the stalls, and there’s a bouncy castle for the youngest visitors. Once the races are over, the event will transition straight into the after-race party.

The date of 3 October holds special significance. The GDR brand Simson and German Unity Day come together in a unique way in Wellmutsweiler. The race thus not only combines motor racing and nostalgia, but has long since become a meeting place for the Simson and motorbike enthusiast scene from the region and far beyond. As early as 2025, several thousand visitors attended the event.

When, on 3 October, the characteristic smell of two-stroke engines wafts over ‘Immels Wiese’, engines roar and the first riders take the bends, one thing will quickly become clear: the Simson race in Wellmutsweiler has long been more than just an ordinary moped race. It is motor sport, a gathering of the scene and a community festival all rolled into one.
