Euro Moto News: Thieves in Schleiz, a taxi in Oschersleben and a test in Spain

The first guests are signing up for the grand finale at the Hockenheimring. You can join in at Oschersleben, and you can even have a go yourself in Spain.

Taxi, please

Even though sidecars are no longer part of the new Euro Moto, there is still a significant overlap in terms of fans. A week after the Euro Moto final at the end of September, the action moves to the Sidecar Festival in Oschersleben. The popular taxi rides will also be on offer there once again. “A big thank you to everyone for making this possible again this year,” say the organisers from the Gespannrennen IGG interest group. “The large number of participants in recent years, as well as the many enquiries we’ve already received in the run-up to the event, show us that there’s a great deal of interest. The taxi rides will be available for half an hour on Saturday (17.25 – 18.00) and Sunday (13.30 – 14.00), as per the timetable. You’ll find us in Pit 30 at Oschersleben, where you’ll need to register: Friday 12.00 – 16.00, Saturday 12.00 – 15.00 and Sunday 10.00 – 12.00. The cost is €30.00. Following a briefing and instruction with the rider, two laps will be completed. Motorcycle protective clothing and sturdy footwear are essential for the guest ride. A liability waiver must also be signed on site; for young people under 18, a parent or guardian must co-sign. Participation is open to those aged 16 and over. It’s good to see you again

The Hungarian Bálint Kovács competed in the IDM Superbike series until last year, securing a podium finish in the process. Budgets were tight this season, and Kovács was unable to enter the series, which has been renamed Euro Moto. He remains a regular in the World Endurance Championship. “This year I’m continuing my studies, as I’ve been accepted onto the Master’s programme at Széchenyi István University. Things may have seemed quieter recently, but work has continued behind the scenes – and the results speak for themselves,” Kovács reports. “I’ll be on the grid for the final race of the Euro Moto – formerly the IDM – on the Ducati from Deussen Engines. Many thanks to Daniel for this opportunity and to Patrik, who will also be acting as crew chief this weekend. We’ve just completed a three-day test in Cremona, during which we did an excellent job – even though the track was unfamiliar to me and I was riding a completely new motorbike.

Of course, we couldn’t cover everything in three days, but we’ve made enormous progress, and the team has great potential. The German Championship is extremely competitive again this year, but I feel in good form myself and am really looking forward to it. Before that, of course, there’s the Bol d’Or World Cup Final in the EWC. Keep your fingers crossed for us.”

Souvenir hunters even before the race

The German Supermoto Championship took place in Schleiz last weekend. The people of Schleiz are known for always beating the drum hard for their respective events to ensure the venue is packed. It’s just a shame when souvenir hunters are already on the prowl beforehand. That’s why the Schleiz organisers posted a request ahead of the Supermoto weekend. “It would be great if the banners we’ve put up and hung around the region could stay where they are. Unfortunately, another one was stolen last night. In principle, it’s not such a big deal, provided it stays where it’s meant to be until the evening of 13 September. After that, it’s fine to take it as a collector’s item. It saves us the hassle and you’ll have your souvenir – but please, only after the event.”

Fancy a test ride?

In the Euro Moto Superbike class, Markus Reiterberger, Hannes Soomer, Jan Mohr and Milan Merckelbagh are competing for the Masteroil-alpha-Van Zon-BMW team on MRP motorcycles. With Ricardo Brink, they won every race in the Pro Superstock 1000 class last year and thus secured the title. This year, Ouri Bikkems, Manuel Schoewer and Julius Ilmberger are competing in the Cup. “We’re bringing two MRP Racing Superstock BMW M1000RRs for test rides to the Biker’s Track Days in Valencia (10–12 October 2026),” explains MRP. “The event is already sold out, but if you’re there anyway and are thinking about a motorbike for next season, this is your chance to test one of them.
