Ever since their launch, the SX-F FACTORY EDITIONS have represented the most uncompromising production version of KTM’s motocross platform. With a combination of factory components, performance upgrades and factory-inspired design, the KTM 450 SX-F and KTM 250 SX-F have been transformed into premium bikes packed with racing DNA. According to KTM, this recipe for success has been fundamentally reimagined for 2027 and taken to a new technical level.
“Close collaboration with the KTM racing teams and riders in MXGP and AMA SuperMotocross has formed the basis for the development of the KTM FACTORY EDITIONS for years. The insights gained from this are incorporated directly into series production,” emphasises KTM. “For the 2027 model year, the KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION and the KTM 250 SX-F FACTORY EDITION are now opening the next chapter and offering a first glimpse into the future of the KTM motocross range.”
The two new bikes were unveiled at EICMA in Milan by KTM CEO Gottfried Neumeister.
New chassis concept and revised ergonomics
The chassis concept for the 450 and 250 models has been comprehensively revised. According to KTM, the focus was on weight reduction, optimised weight distribution, new geometry, revised steering heads and new engine mounting points. The aluminium subframe has also been redesigned and is the lightest that KTM has ever produced in series. Furthermore, the wheelbase can be extended, whilst the CNC-machined triple clamps feature a new design. In combination with the new WP XACT Closed Cartridge suspension fork and the corresponding rear shock absorber, the new FACTORY EDITIONS are set to achieve an even higher level of agility, stability and riding precision. At the same time, responsiveness has been improved across a wider range of riding conditions.
The ergonomics have also been completely overhauled. A sleeker body contour, enlarged contact areas around the knees, a new seat and optimised footrests are designed to provide greater freedom of movement and control. “The result is an even better connection between rider and motorbike, particularly in demanding racing situations,” promises KTM.
New exhaust system, improved engines
The KTM SX-F FACTORY EDITIONS feature a new exhaust system. The 250 also receives a comprehensively revised engine with an oval throttle body, oval intake ports, a top-feed injector and a newly developed valve train. The compression ratio has been increased to 15.5:1, whilst the rev limit now stands at 14,500 rpm, bringing it in line with current factory bikes. In addition, the engine has been positioned 2.3 mm higher in the frame, which is intended to improve mass centralisation and deliver even more precise handling.
The 450 model also benefits from these developments. Peak power rises to 63.8 PS at 10,000 rpm, whilst maximum torque is 52 Nm at 7,000 rpm. “Thanks to the optimised integration of the engine, intake system and electronics, as well as the precise calibration of the ECU and fuel management, the additional power is available at all times in a controllable and efficient manner. This ensures maximum performance whilst maintaining excellent rideability under racing conditions,” says KTM.
A lighter yet more robust gearbox is designed to ensure even more precise and smoother gear changes. In addition, a new ‘Engine Management System’ featuring a more powerful ECU is used, which processes sensor data more quickly and utilises further-developed control algorithms. KTM comments: “This allows ignition, fuel delivery and gear-dependent mapping to be controlled with even greater precision, which noticeably improves both rideability and power delivery. At the same time, the Quickshifter also benefits from the optimised electronics, enabling faster and even more precise gear changes under racing conditions.”
During the development of the models, great emphasis was also placed on serviceability and practical solutions. Instructions for maintenance work are affixed directly to the motorbike to facilitate work at the track or in the workshop. “Tried-and-tested racing components from renowned partners underline the uncompromising racing credentials: EXCEL wheels with a new spoke pattern, lighter NEKEN handlebars with two mounting options for individual ergonomic adjustment, and a new Brembo rear brake pad compound for an even more controllable and consistent braking feel,” says KTM.
The package is complemented by a repositioned hour meter, which is more easily accessible and simplifies maintenance planning. Furthermore, the new models feature an optimised cooling system and a completely newly developed air filter box.
The new 2027 model year FACTORY EDITIONS are available from authorised KTM dealers. Please contact them for prices and availability.
