Foxhills: Simon Längenfelder (KTM) wins MX2 qualifying race

MX2 qualifying race at the Grand Prix of Great Britain in Foxhills: World Championship leader Sacha Coenen (KTM), who underwent surgery on Monday this week for a collarbone fracture sustained at Southwick (USA), took the holeshot and took the lead ahead of Guillem Farres (Triumph), who had set the fastest time in qualifying and started from pole position. Farres wasted no time and took the lead on the very first lap; he then rode his own race and looked like the certain winner right up until the final lap.

Simon Längenfelder’s comeback

Defending champion Simon Längenfelder didn’t get off to a good start and had to fight his way up from 11th place. Halfway through the race, he had caught up with the group comprising Liam Everts (Husqvarna), Camden Mc Lellan and Sacha Coenen, and cleverly managed to get the better of the three riders. The gap to leader Guillem Farres (Triumph) was around 7 seconds. The race seemed decided, but things turned out differently.

Farres: Crash on the final lap

A small mistake by Farres changed everything. The Spaniard went down in a left-hand hairpin in the upper section of the track; Längenfelder overtook him and went on to win the race. After his crash, Farres still had to fight for second place, as Camden Mc Lellan was already right alongside him.

Sacha Coenen in 4th place

Sacha Coenen, who had competed with a freshly operated collarbone, battled his way through the race and crossed the line in 4th place, which was undoubtedly a remarkable achievement.

With today’s victory, Simon Längenfelder reduced his deficit to third place in the World Championship standings from 51 to 48 points.
