Ducati rider Aldeguer rode an Aprilia to a strong weekend at Misano

On his return to Aragon two weeks ago – having not raced since Assen in June – Fermin Aldeguer impressed with two sixth-place finishes.

In the home country of his Gresini team, he made even further progress. Aldeguer demonstrated just how important a good qualifying session is. Whilst his team-mate Alex Márquez faltered with two crashes, Aldeguer secured a place on the front row for the number 54 Ducati with brilliant pace.

From there, the Spaniard enjoyed defending his position as best he could. In the Sprint, the plan went somewhat awry. The tussle with Pedro Acosta cost both hotheads an even better position – Aldeguer finished in 8th place. In the GP race, things went much better for the 21-year-old from Murcia.

After dropping back to 5th place in the first half of the race, Aldeguer launched another attack in the closing stages. It was strong enough to finally send Aprilia into a Misano slump. The youngster overtook Jorge Martin to take 4th place – meaning the World Championship lead went to Marc Marquez and Ducati in one fell swoop.

After the 27-lap race on the Adriatic coast, Aldeguer grinned: “I think we should be pretty happy. It would have been even better to finish on the podium – but we were very close. My team did a brilliant job throughout the whole weekend – that meant I was able to maintain my performance on the bike right until the end of the race. It’s a great feeling to finish the weekend like this.”

Aldeguer added: “To be honest, I was still having problems towards the end of the GP race, particularly with my leg. But I’m now confident that I’ll be back to 100 per cent physically by the next event in Austria.”

Aldeguer, who will continue to ride a Ducati in 2027 – albeit in VR46 colours – remains in 10th place in the World Championship standings. Lenovo rider Pecco Bagnaia is now just ahead of him, though his lead still stands at 38 points. For now.
