Moreira on 2027: “I’m sure I’ll be asked this question all weekend”

MotoGP rookie Diogo Moreira stood out during the first half of the 2026 season thanks to a steep learning curve. In his first Grand Prix in the premier class in Thailand, the Brazilian finished 13th, after which he put in consistently strong performances. The rookie achieved his best results to date in Hungary – with 7th and 6th places, Moreira gave a stunning demonstration of his talent at the Balaton Park Circuit. Moreira currently sits 15th in the World Championship standings, making him the second-best Honda rider behind Luca Marini.

Ahead of the start of the second half of the season at the Silverstone Circuit, Moreira was invited to the opening press conference for the race weekend. This time, however, the obligatory media event did not take place at the circuit, but in London, around a two-hour drive away. In the heart of the English capital, at ‘Outernet London’, Moreira appeared before the fans alongside Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia), Pedro Acosta (KTM), Ai Ogura (Trackhouse Aprilia) and local hero Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda) at “Outernet London” in the heart of the English capital, where he answered questions from journalists. The event was very much in keeping with MotoGP’s reorientation under Liberty Media – with the aim of bringing the sport closer to the fans.

Back to Diogo Moreira – how was his summer break? “I tried to take my mind off the world of MotoGP for a bit. But that was difficult. I spent a week with my family and at the beach, and I still found myself thinking about the motorbike,” the 22-year-old admitted. “But I think we’re fully ready to return to the track and focus on the final part of the season. I’m happy to be back.”

Following a strong first half of the season – what will Moreira be focusing on for the final eleven race weekends? “That’s hard to say. We need to get through this weekend first and see where we stand with the Honda. We’re starting afresh and need to try to stay calm.”

Last year, Moreira was in contention for victory at the Silverstone Circuit in the Moto2 World Championship, eventually finishing the race in second place. What does he think he can achieve at Silverstone on the MotoGP Honda? “I like the layout here. I hope I can fight for a top-10 finish in both the sprint and the main race. We’ll try to enjoy the weekend,” said Moreira. “The weather here is always tricky, though. Cal (Crutchlow) and I are usually further back in the pack, but if it starts to rain, for example, we can be in the mix for the win too.”

Where will Moreira be racing in 2027? With LCR or the Honda works team?

Moreira has signed a three-year contract with Honda. It has not yet been announced whether he will continue with LCR or the works team next year. Given the strong performances he’s put in this season, he could be promoted to the factory team in 2027, where he would ride alongside new signing Fabio Quartararo. During the summer break, HRC officially announced the signing of the Frenchman and also of Moto2 ace David Alonso. In the Colombian’s case, too, it has not been revealed which team he will ride for.

When will the official announcement be made? “I’m sure I’ll be asked that question all weekend,” smiled the Honda rider. “But the situation is still the same. We’re waiting to see, but I think there are plenty of other important things I need to think about. Ultimately, I have to do my job and try to stay focused this weekend. But there’s bound to be some news soon.”
