MotoGP fans and riders went full throttle: record donation at the ‘GP of Champions’

This event, organised by the charity Two Wheels for Life – which has been involved in numerous two-wheeled projects across Africa for decades – has a long tradition. However, in 2026, the activities were expanded once again with the aim of generating even more attention – and financial support. Throughout the major event on Thursday, fans of the Motorcycle World Championship were entertained – and involved – for a good cause.

The ‘GP of Champions’ kicked off with 750 guests on a sold-out Paddock Experience Tour, which gave participants exclusive access to the paddock. On Friday, the ‘Silverstone Challenge’ began in the MotoGP Racing for the Future truck. Over 150 fans made donations to have a go on the MotoGP simulator. Sixteen-year-old Kacper Dubanowski was crowned the winner with a blistering lap time of 1:55.699 minutes and, as a thank-you, took his place on the MotoGP starting grid on Sunday. The action continued with a ride-along on the GP circuit, in which ten fans took part on a Ducati MotoEX2, ridden by Ducati test riders Franco Battaini and Fonsi Nieto.

The traditional highlight of the event was once again the auction, held in several sessions, at which not only the Barry Sheen leather suit – announced weeks in advance – went under the hammer for a good cause. From the premier class paddock came Jack Miller, Toprak Razgatlıoğlu, Pedro Acosta, Brad Binder, Jorge Martin, Joan Mir, Luca Marini, Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Quartararo, along with coveted auction items such as helmets, boots and gloves.

The weekend’s auctions raised an astonishing 122,000 euros. Among the top items were a MotoGP experience at the season finale in Valencia (€8,400), two tickets for the FIM Awards Dinner in Málaga, Spain (€5,800), a VR46 Team experience for two people during the Grand Prix (€5,250), a signed Alex Márquez replica helmet (€4,900) and boots (€4,000). The two Barry Sheene replica leather suits by Dainese changed hands for €3,600.

In total, the four-day event marathon organised by Two Wheels for Life raised €234,000 – a record for the most significant charity programme within the MotoGP calendar. Andrea Coleman, founder and CEO, thanked all supporters following the XL campaign: “The GP of Champions at Silverstone is our biggest and most important event of the calendar year, and we are very proud that the motorcycling community has come together to support our mission at ‘Two Wheels for Life’ with our highest fundraising total to date.”
