The Motorsport Arena Oschersleben is looking for track marshals who can get stuck in

Anyone who thinks that being a track marshal means sitting in a shady spot, watching the races up close and just having to wave a flag every now and then was proved wrong when they visited the Euro Moto at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben just over a week ago. At least the folk at the Hasseröder stand had more than enough to do. Five wrecks had to be recovered, in some cases using heavy machinery. A clean-up was required to deal with the oil spill left by Twan Smits. Anyone who’s still keen on the job can get involved without too much trouble. Oschersleben, as well as all the other circuits, welcomes people who want to invest their free time in a new challenge.

What are the duties? “You’ll always be stationed at a post alongside other people – experienced marshals. Tasks are allocated within the team at the post each morning; the following areas of responsibility may fall to you: giving flag signals in the event of an accident or on the instructions of Race Control; guiding the rider and the motorbike out of the danger zone; protecting the rider with a medical pack should they remain on the ground and a doctor be required; Bringing a fire extinguisher to the scene should it be required. Looking after riders and staff following a potential accident or crash. You do not need any special qualifications for this. You should be in generally good health and bring appropriate equipment such as a rain jacket or sturdy footwear.”

What’s in it for you? “This is a voluntary role; otherwise, an expense allowance of 25 euros is paid – at selected events, this may be higher. At major events, we provide a packed lunch for the day and a free pitch at the Sportwarte campsite, including electricity.”
