MotoGP Misano Q1: Fernandez 1st, Bagnaia debacle, Toprak Razgatlioglu last

Whilst the top 10 from Friday’s free practice session go straight through to Qualifying 2, everyone else must go via Q1, from which only the two fastest riders advance to Q2. This included, amongst others, all four Yamaha riders – Fabio Quartararo, Alex Rins, Jack Miller and Toprak Razgatlioglu – as well as two-time MotoGP champion Pecco Bagnaia (Ducati).

In the 15-minute Q1 session on Saturday morning, Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse Aprilia) set the first notable fastest time of 1:30.535. By way of comparison, on Friday Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia) was the fastest with a time of 1:30.144.

In the second session, Fernandez’s time remained unchallenged, though the Spaniard was a good 4/10 sec off Bagnaia’s 2024 lap record on a Ducati (1:30.031 min). Fermin Aldeguer (Gresini Ducati) catapulted himself into second place in the final seconds, thereby knocking Quartararo out of Q2.

Bagnaia improved significantly on Friday’s performance but, finishing fourth, missed out on a place in Q2, continuing his debacle at his home race. The Italian ruined two laps in his second attempt with riding errors, which caused disbelief and head-shaking in the Ducati pit.

Topark Razgatlioglu’s ordeal at Adria continues; trailing by 1.729 seconds, the Turkish rider from Team Prima Pramac Yamaha ended up in last place on the grid. The three-time Superbike champion complains that he is unable to translate the speed of Michelin’s soft rear tyre into race pace.
