Toprak Razgatlioglu dislocated his right shoulder in a crash during the second free practice session in Indonesia. The Pramac-Yamaha rider finished Saturday’s sprint race whilst in pain, but was forced to retire from Sunday’s Grand Prix after eight laps. Following further medical examinations in Milan, it was confirmed that the 30-year-old would need to undergo surgery.

Due to the injury, the three-time Superbike World Champion not only missed the Australian Grand Prix – he was also forced to end the 2026 MotoGP season early. As a result, Toprak will also miss the final four Grands Prix in Sepang, Doha, Portimão and Valencia.

Toprak: “For the first time in my racing career, I’ve had to end the season early”

Toprak underwent successful surgery on 26 October. A day later, he provided an update on his condition. “Sometimes unexpected things happen. I’m going through a difficult time at the moment, because for the first time in my racing career, I’ve had to end the season early,” Toprak wrote on his Instagram account. “It’s a very strange feeling watching the races on TV. I’ve had shoulder surgery so that I can come back stronger, and I’ve already started training again. I hope to be back on the bike as soon as possible. Many thanks to the Yamaha family, my team and the doctors. I’d also like to thank all of you who have supported me and stood by me with your good wishes.”

‘El Turco’ was in a joking mood again – he even posted a mirror-flipped image on social media showing a surgical scar on his healthy left shoulder.

Toprak will be doing everything he can over the coming weeks to make a full recovery. His aim now is to return fit in 2027, so he can get off to the best possible start in the new MotoGP era with the 850cc bikes and Pirelli tyres.
