A major disappointment: the 2027 Speedway Grand Prix calendar excludes Germany

Following the Grand Prix in Landshut in May 2026, it was already evident between the lines that a continuation of the partnership with the new promoter, Mayfield, was unlikely once the three-year contract had expired. This is because the effort and financial risk for the club are enormous; moreover, the ACL has been lucky with the weather on three occasions.

The 2027 Speedway GP calendar currently comprises eleven races in seven countries, with Poland featured three times at the venues of Toruń, Warsaw and Wrocław. Australia is also included, with a double-header to round off the season at the end of October in Gilman, near Adelaide. There have been four Speedway GPs in Australia to date: in Sydney in 2002 and in Melbourne’s Docklands from 2015 to 2017. For the first time, the race will be held in a permanent speedway stadium rather than on a one-off track in a massive arena.

“One of the key questions fans have been asking us since we took over the championships a year ago was when we would return to Australia, ”said Mayfield boss Richard Coleman. “We are delighted to be making this dream a reality in October 2027. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to everyone at Gillman Speedway, the Government of South Australia, Motorcycling Australia and our partners at Monster Energy and the FIM for their support, which has made this possible. It has been a real team effort; this is a special day for the sport Down Under.”

It comes as no surprise that the British Grand Prix is moving from the National Stadium in Manchester to Ipswich: Mayfield purchased the local league club there at the start of the year. And the club will be celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2027.

The date of 12 June is still open on the calendar; it is expected to be filled with an event in Sweden.
