Final Speedway Grand Prix in Thorn: Three-way battle for the World Championship title via live stream

The tenth and final Speedway Grand Prix of the season is set to see a spectacular title decider, as Robert Lambert, Bartosz Zmarzlik and Brady Kurtz are separated by just three points at the top of the standings, meaning that a play-off for the world championship title could even be necessary at the end of the day. Even the sprint race on Saturday afternoon holds particular significance, as following qualifying, this extra race offers 4-3-2-1 World Championship points, which could shake up the overall standings even before the Grand Prix begins. Every point counts for this trio in the heats too, because even if all three title contenders finish in the top places, one will have to go through the Last-Chance Heats, as only the top two on points secure direct entry to the final. This means that in Thorn, the qualifying and heats are more important than ever, as the outcome could be decided even before the battle for the day’s victory begins.

Robert Lambert in top form

Lambert has dominated the second half of the season: with two recent wins and three second-place finishes, the Briton has worked his way to the top of the standings after nine Grands Prix. With 142 points, he is one point ahead of Zmarzlik, who has the chance to make speedway history in Thorn: With six individual world championship titles, the Szczecin rider is level with the legendary Tony Rickardsson (Sweden) and Ivan Mauger (New Zealand) on the all-time list, meaning that Zmarzlik could become the sole record holder with a seventh title. To do so, the Pole must make up at least two points on Lambert and must not lose more than one point to Kurtz. As the current leader, Lambert must score at least as many points as his rivals to secure the world championship crown.

Brady Kurtz: the man who could benefit?

Trailing by three points ahead of the season finale, Australian Brady Kurtz is once again within striking distance of the World Championship title, but must make up at least four points on Lambert and three on Zmarzlik in Thorn. Theoretically, this would be possible with a successful sprint finish, as seen recently in Vojens. However, Lambert also managed to score points in the sprint there for the third time, which earned him a whopping nine extra points in the World Championship race. For Kurtz, who missed out on the World Championship crown by just one point last year, the Individual World Championship title would also mean that, after his compatriot Jason Doyle, he would be only the second rider in recent speedway history to have won both the Individual World Championship title and victory in the Nations and the World Cup.

As well as the World Championship medals, Thorn will also decide who secures a place in the top seven of the overall standings, which guarantees a place in the 2027 Grand Prix. Currently, Denmark’s Leon Madsen sits in fifth place with 90 points, but has three rivals – Max Fricke, Kacper Woryna and Patrick Dudek – hot on his heels with 89 points each.
