Speedway GP Riga: Dominik Kubera is injured – Kai Huckenbeck steps in

With Jack Holder and Dan Bewley still sidelined with long-term injuries, Anders Thomsen (DK) and Jan Kvech (CZ) remain in the Grand Prix line-up, whilst Fredrik Lindgren’s return initially meant that Kai Huckenbeck, third on the replacement list, would not have been selected for Riga. The Swede had been injured during a league race in mid-May and consequently missed a total of seven World Championship events, which also meant that Kai Huckenbeck had competed in four races so far. The 33-year-old from Werlte put in his best performance at the second event in Manchester, where he scored eight heat points to reach the Last-Chance Qualifier and ultimately finished ninth.

Huckenbeck has now received a last-minute call-up for Saturday evening’s race (8 August) in the Latvian capital, Riga, as Dominik Kubera injured his hand in a crash in the Danish league alongside Mateusz Cierniak and Peter Kildemand. This means the North German rider will have the chance to replace the Pole for the second time this season, having already stepped in for him at the double-header in Manchester, England.

The Riga Grand Prix and the Speedway World Cup semi-final – in which the final qualifier for the final in Warsaw at the end of August will be decided – can be watched as usual via the paid livestream on Discovery+. Due to the time difference, the broadcasts will start an hour earlier than usual in Central Europe.
