SGP & SGP2 in Łódź: Germans Kai Huckenbeck and Konzack move up the rankings

With Janek Konzack in the SGP2 and Kai Huckenbeck in the Speedway Grand Prix, two German riders are taking part in the double-header in Łódź, Poland – marking a World Championship debut.

The debut of the Speedway Grand Prix in Łódź will feature two German riders. As was the case in Manchester and Malilla, Kai Huckenbeck will line up as the third replacement rider alongside the Czech Jan Kvech and the Dane Anders Thomsen, as Fredrik Lindgren, Dan Bewley and Jack Holder remain sidelined through injury.

In the SGP2, Wiktor Przyjemski has been dealt a major blow: the Pole, who became U21 World Champion in 2024 and was already struggling with the after-effects of an injury in last year’s SGP2, will miss the event in his home country on Friday (31 July). Przyjemski, who won the opening round in Sweden and would have arrived in Łódź as the World Championship leader, will be replaced by the young Janek Konzack from Luckau, who was nominated as the first reserve for the U21 World Championship. Unfortunately, there will be no live coverage of the race in Łódź via an official stream either.

The seventh Grand Prix of the season, however, will be shown live as usual on the pay-TV channel Discovery+. Following qualifying, which will be shown on Saturday (1 August) from 2 pm, coverage of the main race will begin with pre-race reports at 6.40 pm. Alongside the original English commentary by Kelvin Tatum and Oliver Allen, there will also be a German audio track featuring Norbert Ockenga.

As well as Kai Huckenbeck’s performance, the main question in the Grand Prix is whether world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik will further extend his current five-point lead over his closest rival, Brady Kurtz, or whether the Australian can fight back. In the seventh of ten races, attention is also increasingly turning to which riders will make it into the top seven of the overall standings, who automatically qualify for the 2027 World Championship. Ahead of the Łódź GP, just five points separate fifth and tenth place.
