European Speedway Championship, Rzeszów: Kacper Woryna defeats the fearless Janowski

The third final race of the Speedway European Championship in Rzeszów, in south-eastern Poland near the Ukrainian border, provided an entertaining evening. Kacper Woryna only dropped points to Maciej Janowski and Jan Kvech in the heats, thereby securing direct qualification for the final. Janowski held second place after the heats; although he scored just one point in the final heat, neither Andrzej Lebedevs nor Leon Madsen managed to displace him from second place overall. Both riders qualified for the day’s final via the last-chance heat, in which they knocked Michael Jepsen Jensen and Jan Kvech out of the competition.

The final had to be restarted three times: on the first attempt, Woryna led the field ahead of Lebedevs until Madsen brought Janowski down on the third lap and was disqualified. On the second attempt, Janowski went down for the second time after being touched by Woryna in the starting bend. On the third attempt, everything went smoothly: Janowski took the lead on the back straight with a speed advantage, but was only able to hold off the fiercely attacking Woryna for two laps, before Woryna overtook his compatriot on the third lap and won ahead of Janowski and Lebedevs.

Kai Huckenbeck makes it into the top ten with a race win

Kai Huckenbeck found himself in last place in two heats and had only three points to his name after four races. With his victory in the 20th heat, he doubled his points tally and still managed to break into the top ten. With 26 points from three races, the rider from Werlte is just three points behind the Czech Jan Kvech – who currently sits in sixth place, a position that guarantees a starting place in the 2027 European Championship – ahead of the season finale in Pardubice (CZ).

In the title race, Madsen and Woryna now lead the standings with 34 points each, whilst Jepsen Jensen and Janowski are just one point behind on 33, promising a very exciting showdown in the Czech Republic in early October.
