Alberto Surra (Ducati) after his season highlight: “We’re constantly improving”

Following two lacklustre seasons with Michael Rinaldi and Ryan Vickers, Motocorsa boss Lorenzo Mauri has pulled off another coup for the 2026 World Superbike Championship with Alberto Surra, just as he did with Axel Bassani between 2021 and 2023. The 22-year-old has improved steadily in his first season on the Ducati V4R and recently delivered his best performance to date at Magny-Cours.

Finishing fourth in the Superpole race and fifth in the second race, the Italian secured top-five finishes in two races for the first time, and together with eighth place in the first race, the 25 World Championship points he collected also represent a new personal best for Surra. Surra laid the foundations for a successful race weekend by securing fifth on the grid in Superpole.

“We are extremely pleased with the past race weekend,” said team boss Lorenzo Mauri with satisfaction. “On Saturday, we secured an excellent eighth place in the first race after securing fifth on the grid in qualifying. Today, we then achieved a fantastic fourth place in the Superpole race and a brilliant fifth place in the second race, bringing our weekend at Magny-Cours to the best possible conclusion. We’re also leaving France with a very important ninth place in the World Championship standings, which gives us great satisfaction and confirms the quality of our work.”

The season highlight at Magny-Cours comes at just the right time for Motocorsa to rally its fan base ahead of its home race at the Cremona Circuit at the end of September. The team’s base, situated in the immediate vicinity of Lake Alserio, is 140 km from the circuit. During last week’s test at Cremona, the team prepared for the tenth round of the season.

“Magny-Cours was a brilliant weekend, and I’m really happy about it,” said Surra. “We’re constantly improving: there are still a few things we need to work on, but we’re slowly managing to turn our hard work into really good results. I’d like to thank the whole team for their efforts – it was an extremely positive weekend. Now I can’t wait to get to Cremona and experience another home race!”
